ABOUT ME

In 2005 I won an award from an art exhibition with Felt in SP which introduced me in visual art and craft art and has increased my interest in disclosure of textile art made of felt and other fibers.

My interest in felt is precisely the energy that I can capture and share with this material from when I am working with it or even when I'm in contact with other people in the workshops.

I enjoy immensely the moment of insight, “that most intimate moment of an idea which I intend to work on” and when I have the ability to draw a sketch and then apply it to the fibers.

Textile arts have always been present in my life, from the art crafts I performed in Catholic school under guidance of the nuns, to living with my parents and grandparents from Europe, and many years in contact with Asian culture, which has a strong presence in my artistic training.

I Work with organic materials especially wool, silk, straw fiber, sugarcane fiber and coconut fiber. My classes and workshops in tapestry weaving and handloom give me independence to keep studying, researching, searching and developing some products. This support comes also from my beautiful family that has always been by my side, full of kindness, understanding and patience.

I use natural dyes extracted from vegetables, herbs, leaves and barks to dye fibers in order to create more opportunities for different forms with creativity.

(Here in Brazil I do not know exactly when artistic felt appeared, but there are many people who use this form of artistic expression or those still using some specific techniques on pieces for commerce.)

In Brazilian culture the custom of felting is still very small and I believe the most efficient way to disseminate this activity is the development of workshops for all the artists involved in textile art and those who use textiles as a base in their art.

Brazil is a big country, with a tropical climate and diversity, of customs and education, we are pioneers in the cultivation of important natural fibers such as cotton, sheep wool, straw, silk and other fibers and I think that every individual action is important for the growth of art craft a word still little used and understood among some artists.
